In this study, novel Fe-Ce-O mixed metal oxides were prepared by hydrothermal method. The Fe(0.3)-Ce-O catalyst showed excellent Hg-0 oxidation performance in the presence of NH3, with high N-2 selectivity (90% at 300 degrees C) for NH3 oxidation. NH3-TPD indicated that a large concentration of acid sites appeared after CeO2 modification by Fe. The large surface area and O-alpha/(O-alpha, + O-beta) ratio and the good Hg-0 adsorption capacity were beneficial for Hg-0 oxidation over the Fe(0.3)-Ce-O catalyst in the presence of NH3. Moreover, it was proposed that Hg-0 was adsorbed in preference to NH3 on weak acid sites. Thus, the weak acid sites were crucial in Hg-0 oxidation in the presence of NH3 .
