Bentonite modified APE/bentonite-CCF (CAC) composite adsorbent coating has been developed using a very simple sol-gel route. The coating was prepared by the mixing of commercial grade acrylic polymer emulsion (APE) and bentonite on cotton cellulosic fiber (CCF). The CAC was characterized on the basis of X-ray fluorescence (XRF), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), UV-spectroscopy (IJV-Vis.) and FTIR analyses. The influence of various factors was investigated for the adsorption of Brilliant Green (BG) dye on CAC. The CAC adsorbent coating exhibited significant adsorption capacity together with good thermal and mechanical stability. The results of adsorption studies revealed that the CAC adsorbent coating achieved 95% dye removal efficiency in 30 min at higher temperature (60 degrees C). The adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetic models which established the maximum adsorption capacity of 52.63 mg g(-1) After removal of dye, the CAC could be simply separated from cellulose fiber without further applying other processing methods (such as centrifugation and magnetic attraction).
