This review focuses on cobalt-catalyzed, chelation-assisted C-H functionalization reactions in which an N,N'-bidentate directing group is used. Cobalt complexes are now recognized as potential alternatives for noble metals, such as Pd, Rh, Ir, Pt and Ru in C-H bond activation. Bidentate directing groups have been shown to be powerful auxiliaries for regio-selective C-H bond activation in C-H functionalizations catalyzed by cobalt complexes.
