In this work, the condensable gases of the bio-oil produced from its fast pyrolysis at 500 degrees C for 30 s has been analyzed by Py-GC/MS. Relatively high yields of acetic acid, phenolics and levoglucosan have been found. Levoglucosan can be used as a source for synthesizing bio-fuels and both, phenolics and levoglucosan in the production of chemicals. However, further research is necessary in order to find adequate ways of using the great potential of this type of lignocellulosic biomass for developing a bio-based economy less dependent on fossil fuels and more respectful with the environment.
