A novel dynamic model of magnetostrictive actuator is proposed in this paper, which is based on jiles-Atherton (JA) model. Fully coupled magneto-mechanical effects, including stress-dependent magnetization, stress-dependent magnetostriction and Delta E effect are considered in this proposed model. The model illustrates how these effects influence the output displacement of the actuator. Furthermore, the model considers the eddy-current losses induced from both the magnetostrictive material and the magnetic yokes. The experimental studies verify the effectiveness of the novel dynamic model. Comparisons are made among the novel model and previous models in quasi-static experiments. The results show that higher accuracy for output displacement prediction can be achieved by the fully coupled model. Two actuator structures are used in the dynamic experiments, which shows the different dynamic effects of the magnetostrictive material and the yokes on magnetostriction. Both dynamic effects can be quantified by the novel model and higher accuracy can be achieved for output displacement calculation. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
