Thermally stable luminescence properties and energy transfer of green emitting LiBaPO4: Tb3+, Ce3+ Phosphor

Green emitting LiBa(1-x-y)PO4: xTb(3+),yCe(3+) phosphors have been synthesized by solid state reaction method and investigated by means of microstructure, photoluminescence, and temperature dependence of luminescence property. Effective energy transfer occurs from Ce3+ to Tb3+ in LiBaPO4 host due to the observed spectral overlap between the emission band of Ce3+ and the excitation band of Tb3+. We have also shown that the energy transfer from Ce3+ and Tb3+ in LiBaPO4 host was demonstrated to be resonant type via a dipole-dipole interaction mechanism with the energy transfer critical distance of 0.9077 nm. Furthermore, LiBa0.75PO4:0.2Tb(3+),0.05Ce(3+) phosphor shows high thermally stable luminescence comparable to commercial phosphor YAG:Ce3+. All the characteristics suggest that LiBaPO4:Tb3+,Ce3+ is a good green phosphor candidate for creating white light in phosphor-conversion WLED.
