New experimental data on the viscosity of ionic liquid (IL) 1-ethyl-3methylimidazolium methanesulfonate are reported. The measurements have been made at atmospheric pressure between (273 and 413) K using an Anton Paar MCR 302 rheometer. The combined expanded uncertainty of the viscosity and temperature measurements at the 95% confidence level with a coverage factor of k = 2 is estimated to be 3.0% and 15 mK. These measured viscosity data were correlated to the equations of Arrhenius-Andrade and Vogel-Tamman-Fulcher (VTF). The Arrhenius plot of ln.0against T 1for the [ EMIM][ MeSO3] deviates from linearity in the low-temperature range near the melting temperature. It was showed that measured values of the viscosity can be best represented by fitting ln.0 to a VFT correlation model which is consistent with the theory of rate processes. The value of the glass temperature for the IL was estimated using the VTF parameters derived from the present viscosity measurements.
