Effect of Switchings and the Lifetime of Chimeras in an Ensemble of Nonlocally Coupled Chaotic Maps

In this paper we present numerical results for the spatio-temporal dynamics of a network of nonlocally coupled logistic maps. We show that temporal switchings between amplitude and phase chimera states can be observed in an autonomous ensemble. This alternation process, which we refer to as a temporally intermittent chimera. can be classified as a transient chimera. We have established that the intermittent regime has a finite lifetime and is finally transformed to the phase chimera, being a stationary and stable regime. We also demonstrate that such behavior is typical both for a separate element of an amplitude chimera cluster and for the whole amplitude chimera cluster.
