This paper describes and gives preliminary numerical calculations for a spectrometer that combines a moving double-sided-mirror interferometcr with a plane transmission grating. In one scan period. multiple interferograms are produced simultaneously, each with a separate wavelength range and located in a separate pixel of a linear detector. The spectrometer has the advantage of providing the ultrahigh spectral resolution of interferometry for a wide spectral range (e.g.. 0.005 nm at 250 nm together with 0.02 nm at 450 nm), while avoiding the multiplex disadvantage of interferometry in ultraviolet-visible spectral region, and relaxing the dynamic range requirement of the detector.
