Circadian rhythms have evolved to produce cyclic changes in metabolism or behavior that adapt the body to changing requirements throughout the 24 h light/dark cycle. Here, we highlight recent advances in our understanding of the mechanisms that maintain body hydration and highlight the contribution of the central clock to the generation of endocrine and behavioral rhythms that contribute significantly to this process.
