A clean and facile template-engaged approach was developed for the synthesis of ZnCo2O4@ZnCo-layered double hydroxide (ZnCo-LDH) yolk-shell nanospheres via controlled hydrolysis of mixed metal glycolates. The ZnCo2O4@ZnCo-LDHs have novel structures and exhibit good oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity, with an overpotential (eta) of 375 mV at 10 mA cm(-2) vs. RHE and a Tafel slope of 73 mV dec(-1) in 1.0 M KOH.
