Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/hydroxyapatite (HAp) composite fibres were obtained using femur pork bone as a precursor. The fibres were prepared by the electrospinning technique using as a vehicle a solution of PVA at 10 and 15% weight. Scanning electron microscope images showed that the average diameter of the PVA fibre and PVA/HAp composite fibres does not change significantly. Using PVA (10% wt), composite fibres of cylindrical shape with a small quantity of HAp could be observed. However, an increase in PVA content to 15% wt produces higher suspension and larger amounts of HAp particles incorporated into the composite fibre. The composite fibres were characterised through X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. Some of the advantages of obtaining HAp composite fibres using pork bone by electrospinning are quick production, economy, and the non-use of chemical precursors in its production.
