Herein, we present a silkworm-like spherical Ni-rich layered LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 (S-NCM) with hierarchical structure assembled with uniform nanoparticles. Such a hybrid nanostructure would effectively facilitate the charge transport and exhibits stable cycling performance. As a result, the S-NCM composite manifests a very high reversible capacity of around 201.2 mAh g(-1) at 0.1 C and 142.5 mAh g(-1) at 5 C. After 115 cycles the electrode still maintains a capacity of 138.2 mAh g(-1), giving a high capacity retention of 78.5%. This study may furthermore open a door for the synthesis of Ni-rich materials with high electrochemical performance. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
