Well-dispersed Fe3O4 nanoparticles (around 10-20 nm) were simply produced by mechanochemical transformation of iron oxyhydroxides (FeO(OH)). When the Fe3O4 nanoparticles were applied as anodes for rechargeable Li-ion batteries (LIBs), excellent electrochemical performance was observed with highly reversible capacities of 914 mAh g(-1) over 120 cycles and fast rate capability. The metal oxides produced by mechanochemical transformation of metal oxyhydroxides will be highly applicable to electrodes for high-performance LIBs. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
