Electrochromic films with high stability and large color contrast have application prospects in advanced adaptive camouflage. In this work, a SnO2/V2O5 core/shell composite film with rough surface is prepared by combining hydrothermal and electrodeposition methods. The composite film exhibits remarkable electrochromic properties, including large transmittance modulation (47%), high coloration efficiency (118 cm(2) C-1) and admirable optical cyclic stability. The core/shell structure plays a pivotal role in the enhanced electrochromic performance due to the large reactive area and strong adhesion to the substrate. Impressively, a highly reversible color change among yellow, green, and blue is observed in the electrochromic film, suggesting its potential application in adaptive camouflage for conditions of a desert, oasis and ocean.
