Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have received significant research attention due to their rich contribution in many emerging fields. Furthermore, TMDs have shown great potential for the possibility of engineering their properties through doping to provide structural and functional tunability. Recently, environmental related applications have gained attention in utilizing the full potential of doped TMDs. The present article reviews the potential environmental applications of engineered 2D TMDs through doping. The article mainly reviews several possible doping strategies for engineering 2D TMD nanomaterials towards enhancing their performance.
