A highly efficient Pd-catalyzed multicomponent reaction of sulfonyl azides, primary amines and methyl alpha -isocyanoacetates was developed. This method provided an efficient and simple strategy for the synthesis of tetrasubstituted imidazolone derivatives in good to excellent yields via sulfonyl guanidine intermediates. This protocol shows a broad substrate scope and mild reaction conditions, and new C-C, and C-N bonds were constructed via a three-component reaction in one step.
