In this paper, the concept of partial lithiation of silicon microparticles in anodes for lithium ion batteries is presented. These particles are accessible on an industrial scale and processing to anodes is possible using standard equipment in aqueous conditions. Compared to state-of-the-art high capacity graphite anodes, the initial volumetric anode capacity is increased by more than 40% in case the silicon capacity is utilized by around 30%, even with only light calendering of the anode. Partial utilization of the capacity that is offered by the available silicon leads to more stable cycling with accessible cycle numbers of up to 250 full cycles against NMC-622.
