The Investigation of the Current Limitation Behavior of Saturated Iron-Core SFCL under Different Fault Resistance and Fault Distance

As the promising and the reliable type of superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL), saturated ironcore SFCL (SISFCL) provides the limitation duty by using the non-linear B-H characteristic of the iron core. In this paper, the performance of conventional SISFCL is investigated under different fault resistance and fault distance. The analytical studies are presented to express the relation between current limitation behavior of SISFCL and fault resistance and transmission line impedance. Then, the simulation studies in PSCAD/EMTDC software are provided to fulfill the study. For assessments, the value of fault resistance and fault distance are changed. The obtained results indicate that SISFCL does not have the suitable performance when the fault resistance is high or the far fault occurs.
