A simple and versatile method for the preparation of manganese coordination polymers [Mn(3,5-PDC)center dot 2H(2)O] (3,5-H2PDC = 3,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid) and Mn 2,5-furandicarboxylate which goes via a simple hydrothermal route is developed and the coordination polymers are tested as novel high-energy anode materials for lithium-ion batteries for the first time. [Mn(3,5-PDC)center dot 2H(2)O] shows a high discharge capacity of 583.9 mA h g(-1) for the fourth cycle between a 0.05-3.0 V voltage limit at a discharge current density of 100 mA g(-1). A reversible capacity of 554.0 mA h g(-1) is retained after 240 cycles with a capacity retention of 94.8% while Mn 2,5-furandicarboxylate shows a high discharge capacity of 467.3 mA h g(-1) for the second cycle and a reversible capacity of 436.6 mA h g(-1) is retained after 206 cycles with a capacity retention of 93.4%.
