In this study, an attempt has been made to tailor the nickel-tungsten-cobalt-alumina nanocomposite coatings by providing an electrochemical procedure in which both the mechanical and the electrochemical aspects of coatings are controllable. Using this method, besides changing the chemical composition of the coating as a function of thickness, it is possible to change the coating crystallite size as a function of thickness by changing parameters such as frequency. The backscatter electron image and EDS linear analysis, coupled with the measurements obtained by the XRD technique, indicate that the chemical composition and crystallite size change in line with the thickness of the coating. Corrosion and wear properties of the electrochemically tailored coatings could also be heavily affected by the provided electrochemical procedure parameters. (C) 2017 Elsevier B. V.
