This investigation studies possibility of the generation of hydrogen through the partial oxidation of methanol, using N2O as the oxidant, over a commercial iron-chromium catalyst in the form of a fluidised bed. A 95% yield of hydrogen was achieved at 350 degrees C. The most important advantages of the proposed solutions are: possibility of utilization of renewable bio-methanol and waste N2O; easy control over the temperature of the process and thus, control over the product distribution through the introduction of a catalyst in a fluidised state, use of an industrial catalyst which is cheap, available, stable, has a long lifetime; high compression strength and abrasion resistance.
