Using density functional theory and phenomenological Landau-Khalatnikov theory, we investigate the effect of spontaneous polarization switching in BaTiO3 on the oxygen vacancy-induced electron gas at the adjacent SrTiO3/EuO interface in epitaxial BaTiO3/SrTiO3/EuO heterostructures. The ferroelectric field effect, induced by BaTiO3 (BTO) in oxygen-deficient SrTiO3 (STO) in the presence of a ferromagnetic semiconductor EuO, results in a spin-polarized carrier gas at the interface due to the magnetoelectric proximity effect.
