Numerous reports have elucidated that synthesis of graphene (Gr)-reinforced metal matrix composites is difficult by conventional manufacturing techniques because Gr exhibits a large surface area as well as high tendency to agglomerate. Consequently, herein, a Gr/316L stainless-steel composite was synthesized through an alternate process, namely: powder-bed fusion. The effects of the Gr content on the hardness and wear behavior of the prepared composite were investigated. The hardness of prepared composite increased by up to 25%, and due to the solid lubrication property of Gr, wear rate of prepared composite also reduced significantly. The results of this study indicate that Gr is an ideal reinforcement for a stainless-steel matrix composite, as it improves the wear performance and hardness.
