The adsorption of dye molecules from the contaminated water onto the biopolymer is regarded as insignificant since such materials have weak physical, chemical and mechanical stability. However, their surface modification with various organic and inorganic materials lead to a drastic change in their adsorption behaviour. The work revealed the fabrication of a new Ce(III) networked chitosan/beta-cyclodextrin (Ce@CCD) adsorbent beads and their utilization for the adsorption of RB4, IC and AB158 dye molecules from water/wastewater. The maximum adsorption capacity of Ce@CCD beads for the removal of RB4, IC and AB158 dye molecules were 29.56, 30.57 and 30.57 mg/g, respectively. The adsorption of RB4, IC and AB158 dye molecules on Ce@CCD beads mainly take place through the electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding and surface complexation interactions. The experiments recommended a promising method for the preparation of Ce@CCD adsorbent beads and their application in the advanced adsorption of dye molecules from water.
