A superalloy is a metallic alloy which can be based on iron, cobalt or nickel etc. Nickel based superalloy is best suited for aeroengine applications. In addition to aero engine applications Nickel based superalloys are extensively used in automotive industry, nuclear reactorsetc, where wear takes place. So it's important to know wear behaviour of Ni based superalloys. In this study the wear behaviour of Ni based superalloys were studied for different composition and at different conditions. It is observed that Ni-based superalloys have superior properties at both high and low temperatures. In spite of enhanced properties of superalloys like good mechanical strength under stress, large strain hardening and poor chemical affinity to tool materials some drawbacks like quick tool wear is in major concern for mankind. It is found that wear of Ni- based superalloy is dependent upon temperature. As the temperature increases the coefficient of friction is more prone to be increased which in turn affects the wear. For Magnesium- Ni based superalloy it is found that for a constant sliding time the wear rate has higher value at lower temperature. Again it is found that as sliding time increases then co-efficient of friction also increases for Ni-based superalloy coating. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
