This aim of this study was to isolate chemical compounds with antimicrobial and antioxidant activities from Lannea humilis. Lannea humilis stem bark was extracted with hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol using the maceration method. Two compounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract. GCMS and NMR analyses were used to elucidate the compounds as Lupeol (A1) and Campesterol (J3) which were active against Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Proteus mirabilis, and Salmonella typhi. The minimum inhibition concentration was between 3.125 and 12.5 mu g/mL. Al and J3 had antioxidant activities of 70 and 75% respectively at a concentration of 240 mu g/mL. The compounds isolated had significant antimicrobial and antioxidant activities and could be useful precursors in the synthesis of drugs used in treating nausea, cough, body pains, acute dysentery, cholera and asthma.
