The interaction of [Pb((SPr)-Pr-i)(2)](n) with AgNO3 under different conditions resulted in two different structures of lead-thiolate clusters, with molecular structures confirmed by single-crystal X-ray analysis. UV/Vis properties of these clusters in solid and solution state were also investigated in the study.
Interaction of [Pb((SPr)-Pr-i)(2)](n) with 1.5 equiv. of AgNO3 in DMF under aerobic conditions at room temperature gave a cationic lead-centered thiolate cluster [Pb-13((SPr)-Pr-i)(6)O-8](NO3)(4) (1). While treatment of [Pb((SPr)-Pr-i)(2)](n) in refluxing DMF in air afforded a two-dimensional layered structure of [Pb-14((SPr)-Pr-i)(16)O-6](n) (2), comprising of [Pb-14((SPr)-Pr-i)(18)O-6](2-) units bridged the (PrS-)-Pr-i moieties. Molecular structures of the two oxidation products of mu(4)-oxygen-bridged high-nuclearity lead(II) clusters have been determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis. The UV/Vis properties of the two clusters in both solid state and solution state were also investigated in this paper. [GRAPHICS] .
