Clay material is efficient in removing Pb(II) ions from aqueous solutions, with Dubinin-Radushkevich model showing a satisfactory fit for equilibrium adsorption data. Thermodynamic parameters indicate the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic. The experimental results suggest that clay adsorbent is a promising alternative for removing Pb(II) ions from industrial effluents.
The removal of Pb(II) ions is an important issue for the treatment of industrial wastewater, due to its serious consequences on environment and human health. In this study a local clay material was used for the efficient removal of Pb(II) ions from aqueous solutions. The influence of initial Pb(II) ions concentration and temperature, was evaluated by batch adsorption technique. Langmuir and Dubinin-Radushkevich models were used to fit the equilibrium adsorption data and the statistical parameters depict a better and satisfactory correlation for Dubinin-Radushkevich model. Thermodynamic parameters revealed that the negative values of Delta G degrees and positive value of Delta H degrees the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. The experimental results indicate that clay adsorbent is promising alternative for removal of Pb(II) ions from industrial effluents.
