HIV attitudes and beliefs in US-based African refugee women

Kafuli Agbemenu et al.

Summary: This study describes the attitudes and beliefs about HIV among a group of African refugee women. The findings show that despite low education levels, the participants had high rates of HIV screening. However, inconsistencies between knowledge of HIV acquisition and behaviors relating to HIV positive individuals may indicate HIV stigma among this population. Therefore, there is an urgent need for educational strategies targeting this group.
