Impaired Clearance From the Brain Increases the Brain Exposure to Metoclopramide in Elderly Subjects

Martin Bauer et al.

Summary: Elderly individuals showed significantly higher distribution of metoclopramide in the brain compared to young individuals, possibly due to reduced activity of the P-gp transporter at the blood-brain barrier. This age-related decrease in clearance of metoclopramide from the brain may contribute to the higher incidence of central nervous system side effects in the elderly population.
