Developmental multi-trajectory of irritability, anxiety, and hyperactivity as psychological markers of heterogeneity in childhood aggression

Jules R. Dugre et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the developmental trajectories of child psychological factors and their associations with aggression. The results showed that different combinations of developmental trajectories were associated with varying levels of risk for exhibiting physical aggression. Maternal cigarette and alcohol use during pregnancy, as well as maternal depression, consistently predicted the formation of multi-trajectory groups.

Not Just Doing Time: Distinct Typologies of Attitudes and Emotions among Juvenile Justice-Involved Youth

Kathryn Lynn Modecki

Summary: Adolescents' attitudes and beliefs are important frames of reference, particularly for youth in the juvenile justice system. Different profiles of attitudes and emotions were found to be associated with antisocial behavior. Historically marginalized populations of youth were less likely to have positive legal attitudes and emotions, highlighting a gap in understanding youths' experiences within the juvenile justice system.

Tackling Mental Health in Youth Sporting Programs: A Pilot Study of a Holistic Program

Tiah L. Dowell et al.

Summary: Linking mental health services to organised sport through an integrated program within junior sports development was found to be effective, acceptable and feasible. The three-step program for 12-15-year-old rugby league players showed significant reductions in anxiety symptoms and improvements in certain areas for boys. Providing feedback to participants and parents enhanced access to care and led to declines in anxiety symptoms among at-risk participants. This study supports further exploration of integrated mental health systems in sporting contexts for addressing mental health issues among adolescent boys.
