Identifying and Quantifying Urban Polycentric Development in China From DMSP-OLS Data and Urban Land Data Sets

Kaifang Shi et al.

Summary: This study identified and quantified the morphology of intercity urban polycentric development using DMSP-OLS data and UL data sets in China. It evaluated the spatiotemporal change and impact factors of UPD from 2000 to 2012. The results showed that China's urban structure exhibited a pattern of high values in the eastern region and low values in the western region, and the gross domestic product had a significant impact on UPD.

Spatio-temporal Dynamics of Urbanization in China Using DMSP/OLS Nighttime Light Data from 1992-2013

Pengfei Xu et al.

Summary: By using the long-term Defense Meteorological Satellite Program's Operational Linescan System (DMSP/OLS) nighttime light images, a study conducted a pixel level assessment of urbanization in China from 1992 to 2013, revealing drastic fluctuations in urbanization, especially in coastal and metropolitan areas. The urban dynamics and increasing trends in North Coast China, East Coast China and South Coast China were found to be more stable and significant compared to other regions. The results also indicated a potential decrease in light intensity in nearly 50% of lighted pixels in the future, signaling a severe urbanization situation in these regions.

Global trends in vegetation seasonality in the GIMMS NDVI3g and their robustness

Wentao Ye et al.

Summary: Analyzing the long-term trends in vegetation seasonality derived from the GIMMS NDVI3g record, this study reveals discrepancies between different versions and datasets, emphasizing the impact of processing methods on inferred trends. Overall, the findings suggest that alternative data sources should be utilized to ensure the robustness of seasonality trends.
