Social, commercial, or both? An exploratory study of the identity orientation of digital social innovations

Carla Bonina et al.

Summary: The research has found that digital social innovations (DSIs) aim to solve social problems by using commercially viable approaches, and exhibit both utilitarian and collectivist identity orientations. In less developed contexts, the collectivist identity orientation tends to be more prominent. This research contributes to discussions on the role of context and potential tensions in combining different identity orientations in DSIs.
