Return to Work Following Total Knee and Hip Arthroplasty: The Effect of Patient Intent and Preoperative Work Status

Khalid Al-Hourani et al.

Summary: The study found that having the intention to return to work before total knee and hip arthroplasty (TKA/THA) was the most powerful predictor of actual return to work. The return to work rates were 85% following TKA and 88% following THA for patients with the intention to return to work. Preoperative joint pathology scores, physical function scores, and EuroQol-5 dimension indices were sensitive predictors for determining whether patients could return to work.
