Chiral halide perovskite crystals for optoelectronic applications

Chiral materials have shown interesting physical properties and unique optoelectronic functions, making them a potential class of materials for optoelectronic applications. The combination of excellent components of perovskites and features of chirality has provided in-depth insights into this emerging perovskite optoelectronic area. The review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of chiral halide perovskite crystals for optoelectronic applications, including their crystal structure, synthesis, growth methods, characteristic properties, and future research opportunities and challenges.
Chiral materials have attracted significant research interest in various realms from biological science1,2 to optoelectronic fields.3, 4 To the best of our knowledge, the incorporations of chiral ligands can produce helical alignments to construct novel chiral structures with excellent optoelectronic functions.5?7 As a result, interesting physical characteristics have been exhibited, such as circular dichroism (CD),8, 9 circularly polarized luminescence (CPL),10,11 nonlinear optic (NLO) properties,12 the chiral-induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect,13 chiro-spintronics,14 and ferroelectricity.15, 16 From this viewpoint, the combination of excellent components of perovskites and unique features of chirality has provided thorough insights into this emerging perovskite optoelectronic area. Therefore, it is imperative to exercise the exploitation of novel chiral halide perovskite materials with optoelectronic Chiral halide perovskites have recently emerged as a class of poten-tial optoelectronic materials. In this review, we mainly aim to pro-vide a comprehensive understanding of chiral halide perovskite crystals for optoelectronic applications. An overview of the research background and advancement of chiral halide perovskites is described. Crystal structure, synthesis, and growth methods of chi-ral halide perovskite single crystals are demonstrated. Moreover, the characteristic properties and optoelectronic applications of chi-ral halide perovskites are systematically illustrated. Finally, future research opportunities and challenges of chiral halide perovskite single crystals and related devices are provided, concluding with our perspective on the burgeoning optoelectronic field.
