Spin-Induced Black Hole Scalarization in Einstein-Scalar-Gauss-Bonnet Theory

Emanuele Berti et al.

Summary: In a certain class of models, black hole solutions with spin-induced scalarization can be constructed, which may violate the Kerr rotation bound. For the quadratic coupling considered, solutions with spin-induced scalarization are entropically favored over Kerr solutions.

Spin-Induced Scalarized Black Holes

Carlos A. R. Herdeiro et al.

Summary: A recently study shows that a scalar field coupled to the Gauss-Bonnet invariant can experience a spin-induced linear tachyonic instability near a Kerr black hole, only when the dimensionless spin j is greater than or equal to 0.5. Results demonstrate that black hole solutions do have scalar hair once the spin-induced instability threshold is exceeded, supporting the idea of spin-induced black hole scalarization.

Rational orbits around 4D Einstein-Lovelock black holes

Hou-Yu Lin et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the periodic orbits of timelike particles around 4-dimensional Einstein-Lovelock black holes, revealing that these rational orbits have different energy levels compared to Schwarzschild black holes during the inspiral stage of detecting gravitational waves, depending on the sign of a coupling constant. These findings offer clues for distinguishing 4D-EL black holes from Schwarzschild ones using orbital dynamical approach in strong gravitational fields.

Can the EHT M87 results be used to test general relativity?

Samuel E. Gralla

Summary: Theoretical predictions for observing accreting supermassive black holes at current observation frequencies are sensitive to untested assumptions about accretion flow and emission physics. It is difficult to distinguish a violation of general relativity from scenarios where gastrophysical assumptions do not hold. Tests of general relativity may become possible with longer interferometric baselines.
