C-FGF23 peptide alleviates hypoferremia during acute inflammation

Rafiou Agoro et al.

Summary: Hypoferremia is an acute response to infection and inflammation, regulated by hepcidin and erythroferrone, while FGF23 may play a key role in contributing to hypoferremia and inhibiting its activity may alleviate LPS-induced hypoferremia. The study showed that inhibiting FGF23 signaling can reduce LPS-induced hepatic and circulating hepcidin levels, leading to alleviation of iron sequestration and improvement in serum iron and transferrin saturation.
