Superparamagnetic nanoparticles of KFeO2 and NaFeO2 were synthesized by the sol-gel method, characterized through various techniques, and found to possess small average particle sizes and superparamagnetic properties, making them suitable for applications in cancer treatment and other biomedical fields.
Superparamagnetic nanoparticles of KFeO2 and NaFeO2 have been synthesized by the sol-gel method. The synthesized nanoparticles have been characterized through various techniques transmission electron microscopy (TEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD) and magnetometer for analysis of their morphology, structural and magnetic properties. TEM study reveals that the average particle size of the nanoparticles is 12.30 nm and 10.50 nm for KFeO2 and NaFeO2 nanoparticles. XRD study reflects that the synthesised nanoparticles exhibit orthorhombic crystal structure with the Pbca and Pna2(1) space group for KFeO2 and NaFeO2, respectively. The magnetic analysis confirmed the superparamagnetic nature of the nanoparticles with large value of magnetization. The study reveals that the synthesized superparamagnetic nanoparticles can be used for the treatment of cancer and various other biomedical applications. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
