Phosphorus deficiencies invoke optimal allocation of exoenzymes by ectomycorrhizas

Justin A. Meeds et al.

Summary: The study reveals that ectomycorrhizal fungi can acquire phosphorus through the production of exoenzymes, with exoenzyme activity positively correlated with declining soil phosphorus levels. Investment in exoenzymes is mainly influenced by phosphorus deficiency and nitrogen-phosphorus ratios. EM fungal species in Podzol plots have an advantage in producing key exoenzymes.
