Comparison of Primary Laser Spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry Methods for Measuring Mass Concentration of Gaseous Elemental Mercury

Abneesh Srivastava et al.

Summary: A direct comparison was made between isotope dilution cold-vapor inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ID-CV-ICP-MS) and laser absorption spectroscopy (LAS) for the measurement of gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) mass concentration. The relative disagreement between the two methods ranged from 1.0% to 1.8% over the examined mass concentration range. The relative combined standard uncertainty on average is 0.4% and 0.9% for LAS and MS methods, respectively.

Primary mercury gas standard for the calibration of mercury measurements

Iris de Krom et al.

Summary: Mercury poses a great threat to global health and the environment, emphasizing the importance of accurate mercury concentration measurements. Research shows that developing a primary mercury gas standard can improve the reliability of mercury measurement results and reduce measurement errors.
