COVID-19 fatality prediction in people with diabetes and prediabetes using a simple score upon hospital admission

Harald Sourij et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess predictors of in-hospital mortality in people with prediabetes and diabetes hospitalized for COVID-19 infection, finding that the in-hospital mortality rate was higher in people with diabetes compared to those with prediabetes but without statistical significance. A risk score using five routinely available patient variables, including age, arterial occlusive disease, C-reactive protein, estimated glomerular filtration rate, and aspartate aminotransferase levels, showed excellent predictive performance for assessing in-hospital mortality.

Summary: The meta-analysis suggests that COVID-19 patients with elevated procalcitonin, CRP, D-dimer, and LDH levels, as well as decreased albumin levels, may be more likely to develop severe outcomes.

Summary: This study revealed a clear link between dementia patients and poor outcomes of COVID-19 infection, suggesting the importance of providing extra care and close monitoring to minimize the risk of infections and prevent severe and fatal outcomes.

Anosmia/Hyposmia is a Good Predictor of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection: A Meta-Analysis

Timotius Ivan Hariyanto et al.

Summary: Anosmia or hyposmia is significantly associated with positive COVID-19 infections, serving as a good predictor for the disease. Patients experiencing onset of anosmia or hyposmia should consider taking the test or undergoing screening for COVID-19 infection.
