Early Economic Analysis of Robotic-Assisted Unicondylar Knee Arthroplasty May Be Cost Effective in Patients with End-Stage Osteoarthritis

David Yeroushalmi et al.

Summary: Cost-effectiveness analysis showed that robotic-assisted unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (r-UKA) is a cost-effective alternative to traditional instrumentation (t-UKA) in the United States, with an estimated cost of $14,737 per revision avoided for a facility seeing 100 patients a year. Case volume was identified as the primary variable affecting cost-effectiveness, with the value of r-UKA increasing with higher case volumes.

Cost-effectiveness of telerehabilitation versus traditional care after total hip replacement: A trial-based economic evaluation

Mark Nelson et al.

Summary: This study compared the cost-effectiveness of telerehabilitation versus traditional in-person care for total hip replacement patients after hospital discharge. The results showed similar healthcare costs and effects between the two approaches, with telerehabilitation significantly reducing the time burden for patients and carers.

The learning curve of robotic-arm assisted acetabular cup positioning during total hip arthroplasty

Babar Kayani et al.

Summary: The study found that robotic-arm assisted acetabular cup positioning during THA was associated with a learning curve of 12 cases for operative times and surgical team confidence levels, but no learning curve effect was observed for restoring native hip biomechanics or achieving planned acetabular cup positioning and orientation. There were no differences in postoperative complications between the two treatment groups.

Do custom 3D-printed revision acetabular implants provide enough value to justify the additional costs? The health-economic comparison of a new porous 3D-printed hip implant for revision arthroplasty of Paprosky type 3B acetabular defects and its closest alternative

Philip Tack et al.

Summary: This study compared the cost-effectiveness of 3D-printed acetabular implants (aMace) with traditional alternatives (CTAC), demonstrating that aMace provides superior value for money for patients undergoing revision hip arthroplasty in a Belgian setting. Patient age impacts both costs and effects, with the use of aMace as an implant resulting in greater QALY gains and cost savings.

Robotic Arm-assisted Total Hip Arthroplasty is More Cost-Effective Than Manual Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Markov Model Analysis

David R. Maldonado et al.

Summary: The study compared the cost effectiveness of robotic arm-assisted total hip arthroplasty (THA) with manual THA, finding that robotic arm-assisted THA is more cost-effective over a 5-year period and slightly increases utility compared to traditional methods.

A prospective randomized controlled trial comparing the systemic inflammatory response in conventional jig-based total knee arthroplasty versus robotic-arm assisted total knee arthroplasty

B. Kayani et al.

Summary: Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (robotic TKA) resulted in lower postoperative systemic inflammatory response, reduced soft tissue injury and bone trauma, and improved accuracy of component positioning compared to conventional jig-based total knee arthroplasty (conventional TKA). Robotic TKA showed advantages over conventional TKA in terms of reducing inflammation and improving surgical outcomes.

Return to Sports After Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Survey Among Members of the European Hip Society

Martin Thaler et al.

Summary: The European Hip Society (EHS) members provided recommendations on resuming sport activities after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Most physical activities were allowed for patients 6 months after surgery, regardless of their experience in a specific sport. European surgeons are progressively easing restrictions on sports after THA, and further studies are needed to assess the impact on patients' outcomes and implant survival.
