The coordination of guard-cell autonomous ABA synthesis and DES1 function in situ regulates plant water deficit responses

Jing Zhang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that in Arabidopsis, dehydration-induced expression of DES1 is regulated by ABA, and ABA-deficient mutants show abolished DES1 expression under dehydration. Complementation of ABA3 or ABA treatment can rescue DES1 expression and wilting phenotype in ABA-deficient mutants. Additionally, coordinated synthesis of ABA and DES1 is required for drought-induced stomatal closure in Arabidopsis.

Hydrogen sulfide: Roles in plant abiotic stress response and crosstalk with other signals

Dengjing Huang et al.

Summary: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) plays important roles in plant response to abiotic stresses, especially in enhancing plant tolerance to salt and heavy metal stresses by regulating Na+/K+ homeostasis and metal ions uptake and transport. H2S interacts with gaseous signal molecules, reactive oxygen species, and phytohormones to respond to stresses directly.

Hydrogen sulphide as a guard cell network regulator

Rosario Pantaleno et al.

Summary: Hydrogen sulphide (H2S), an endogenously produced gasotransmitter, plays a crucial role in various plant processes, including the regulation of stomatal movement. Guard cells control stomatal pore size by transducing endogenous and environmental signals through a complex signaling network, with a core linking most pathways. Evidence suggests that H2S may act as a regulator of the core signaling pathway in guard cell networks.

Hydrogen sulfide-linked persulfidation of ABI4 controls ABA responses through the transactivation of MAPKKK18 in Arabidopsis

Mingjian Zhou et al.

Summary: ABI4 acts downstream of DES1 in controlling ABA responses and undergoes ABA-induced persulfidation at Cys250. The persulfidated Cys250 of ABI4 is essential for its function in regulating plant responses to ABA and H2S.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) signaling in plant development and stress responses

Hai Liu et al.

Summary: Hydrogen sulfide, initially known as a toxic gas, has been found to have important biological functions in both mammalian and plant cells, especially in plant growth, development, and stress responses. It has complex relationships with nitric oxide and hydrogen peroxide in plant signaling, mediating protein post-translational modifications through attacking cysteine residues.

Summary: Gaseous molecules, such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and nitric oxide (NO), play crucial roles in cellular and physiological processes in biological systems. The biological functions of these gaseous molecules have attracted significant attention, with H2S being identified as a signaling molecule throughout the plant life cycle. However, the mechanisms of H2S in redox biology still remain largely unexplored.
