Estimation of Biomass and Soil Carbon Stock in the Hydroelectric Catchment of India and its Implementation to Climate Change

Amit Kumar et al.

Summary: A study on hydroelectric catchment in India assesses the biomass and soil carbon stock and finds that it has a lower carbon stock compared to reservoirs in the same eco-region globally, leading to lower GHG emissions in the future. The study also estimates the carbon stock of the Tehri hydroelectric reservoir and discovers that it emits less GHG than other reservoirs due to its smaller flooded area. The findings of this study are important for the hydropower industry, policymakers, and environmentalists in minimizing the negative impact of GHG emissions on climate change.

Carbon Sequestration and Soil Carbon Build-Up under Eucalyptus Plantation in Semi-Arid Regions of North-West India

Parveen Kumar et al.

Summary: The study on Eucalyptus tereticornis plantations in North-west India revealed significant potential in growth, carbon storage, and sequestration, particularly highlighting the significant increase in soil organic carbon over an 8-year period. E. tereticornis-based plantation forestry not only contributes to carbon sequestration, but also increases farm income.

Implementation of the Use of Ethnomedicinal Plants for Curing Diseases in the Indian Himalayas and Its Role in Sustainability of Livelihoods and Socioeconomic Development

Munesh Kumar et al.

Summary: This study identified 88 plant species used as medicines by inhabitants of the Garhwal Himalayas, with leaves being the most frequently used plant part. Skin ailments were the most common illnesses treated with medicinal plants, and a significant relationship was found between plant usage and distance to access and family income. The results of this study could provide baseline information for future research and could potentially lead to the discovery of new drugs for the pharmaceutical industry.
