Challenges and recommendations for BMIS in nitrogen recovery were proposed, including the need for integrated technologies and more scale-up studies.

Mitigation strategies for reducing nitrogen loss through C/N ratio adjustment and the addition of physical, chemical, and microbial amendments are also evaluated and estimated for 15 countries based on available data.

Additionally, there is a focus on developing novel protein engineering strategies and bioreactor design systems to enhance overall biocatalysis and waste treatment efficiency.
