The contribution of global aviation to anthropogenic climate forcing for 2000 to 2018

D. S. Lee et al.

Summary: Global aviation operations contribute to anthropogenic climate change by emitting carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, water vapor, soot and sulfate aerosols, and increasing cloudiness due to contrail formation. The growth of aviation activity and climate change impact has shown a marked increase in recent years, with contrail cirrus being the largest contributor to the warming effect.

Cloud Activation via Formation of Water and Ice on Various Types of Porous Aerosol Particles

Evelyn Jantsch et al.

Summary: The thermodynamic treatment of the condensation and freezing process on porous aerosol particles with different shapes and surface materials was provided in this study. Cylindrical pores and coneshaped pores were studied, and a scheme for treating pores of arbitrary shape was provided. The optimal conditions for the escape of nanometer-sized ice crystals from cylindrical pores were analyzed, and the importance of pores in acting as cloud condensation nuclei and ice nuclei in the formation of water clouds and ice clouds was demonstrated.

Process-oriented analysis of aircraft soot-cirrus interactions constrains the climate impact of aviation

Summary: According to simulations with a numerical cirrus cloud model, only a small part of aircraft-soot-cirrus interactions succeeds in forming cloud ice, suggesting that radiative forcing from aircraft soot may have been overestimated.

Chemical composition of PM2.5 in October 2017 Northern California wildfire plumes

Yutong Liang et al.

Summary: Recent wildfires in the western United States have become more frequent and intense, impacting human health. The analysis of organic aerosols from wildfire emissions revealed compounds such as sugars, mono-carboxylic acids, and aromatic compounds. The health impacts of the majority of compounds detected in smoke remain unknown, and the balance between evaporated and secondary organic carbonaceous compounds may affect pollution levels.
