The newly discovered Australo-Pacific genus Tainiasomagen and the species Tainiasoma palmarum from north-eastern Queensland inhabit the rachises of dead palms, and their relationship to other members of the family Salpingidae is briefly discussed.
The Australo-Pacific genus Tainiasomagen. nov. and the north-eastern Queensland species Tainiasoma palmarumsp. nov. adult and larva are described and illustrated. Tainiasoma palmarum inhabits the rachises of dead palms (Arecaceae), including the Australian fan palm Licuala ramsayi F. Muell. and the Black Palm Normanbya normanbyi (W. Hill) L. H. Bailey. The relationship of the new genus to other members of the family Salpingidae is briefly discussed.
