In this paper, the experimental study of nucleate pool boiling heat transfer characteristics of saturated water on SiO2 nanostructure surface at atmospheric pressure was reported. Electron beam evaporation technique of nanostructure coating has been used to prepare SiO2 film over Cu substrate at different thickness. The coated surfaces were studied by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopic measurement, and atomic force microscope measurement, which revels formation of crystalline nanostructures of SiO2. A maximum of 80% enhancement in the nucleate pool boiling heat transfer coefficient has been obtained with the SiO2 coating. The nanostructure was induced the surface cavity and better hydrophilicity of SiO2 nanostructure surfaces which brings the enhancement nucleate pool boiling heat transfer. Further the larger surface to volume ratio of nanostructures increases the effective heating surface. (C) 2016 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
