Determination of mercury solvation during cyanidation of artisanal & small-scale gold mining tailings via inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy in comparison to direct mercury analysis

Caryn S. Seney et al.

Summary: A procedure using ICP-OES was developed to determine solubilised Hg in tailings from artisanal gold mining sites, with results verified using a DMA-80. The study found that the addition of NaCN significantly increased the concentration of dissolved Hg, confirming the oxidation and solubilisation process of Hg-0 in the presence of cyanide.

Thiosemicarbazide-grafted graphene oxide as superior adsorbent for highly efficient and selective removal of mercury ions from water

Rafal Sitko et al.

Summary: A superior nanoadsorbent (GO-TSC) for highly effective removal of mercury ions from water solutions was developed by grafting thiosemicarbazide molecules onto graphene oxide nanosheets. The adsorption on GO-TSC is significant across a broad pH range, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 231 mg g(-1) at pH 3.5 and impressive selectivity towards Hg(II) ions.

Nano-bismuth sulfide based dispersive micro-solid phase extraction combined with energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry for determination of mercury ions in waters

Katarzyna Pytlakowska et al.

Summary: A selective method for determining mercury ions in various water samples was developed using nano-bismuth sulfide as a solid sorbent, ultrasound-assisted dispersive micro-solid phase extraction, and EDXRF technology. This method allows for highly sensitive detection of mercury ions at low concentrations, even in the presence of high concentrations of coexisting anions and cations typically found in surface waters.

l-Cystine-functionalized graphene oxide nanosheets for effective extraction and preconcentration of mercury ions from environmental waters

Nadia Basadi et al.

Summary: In this study, graphene oxide nanosheets functionalized with l-cystine were successfully synthesized and used as an efficient adsorbent for selective extraction and concentration of mercury ions from aqueous solutions. The method showed a high efficiency in extracting and measuring mercury ions, with excellent linear calibration curve and accuracy achieved through optimization of key parameters.

The role of matrix in the evaluation of analytical parameters for trace determinations using TXRF spectrometry

Sangita Dhara

Summary: The study demonstrates the crucial role of matrices in trace determinations and their impact on analytical parameters. Recovery rates and relative standard deviations are used to evaluate accuracy and precision. Different matrix elements have varying effects on the evaluation of analytical parameters, and detection limits vary systematically with analyte concentration, matrix concentration, and matrix elements.
